This project began after a devastating house fire destroyed the client’s original home—thankfully, without injury. In its aftermath, RODA was engaged to help the client reimagine their future.

Wanting to stay in their cherished bushland neighbourhood, the client envisioned a new kind of home: a “double house”—a contemporary take on the duplex, designed for connection, generosity, and shared living. The goal was to support two families under one roof, balancing independence and togetherness across generations.

The new design makes the most of the sloping site, creating two distinct but complementary dwellings. Each home is tailored to its occupants, with careful attention to level changes, access, and shared efficiencies—without sacrificing quality or characte.
